Directors Sought for Subdistricts 9 & 10
The Nemaha Natural Resources District is looking for candidates to fill two vacancies on its board of directors. As of June 2023, a position in Pawnee County/Western Richardson County and a position in southeastern Richardson County are vacant following resignations from board members serving subdistricts 9 and 10.
The NRD’s board of directors will accept written applications from interested, potential directors. Applicants must be registered voters who also meet all other eligibility requirements for holding an elected office and reside within the appropriate boundaries of the vacant subdistrict. The position is a two-year term since the position was vacated within the first 19 months of the term; it will then come back up for election in the 2024 election. (NRD board members are normally elected to four-year terms during the primary/general elections in even numbered years.)
The positions in Subdistrict 9 and 10 and were previously held by Matthew Bloss of Pawnee City and Jim Gerweck of Falls City, respectively. Subdistrict 9 includes Falls City, Rulo, and Preston and the surrounding areas in Richardson County, NE (All of Townships 1-2N Range 16E, Sections 13-36 Township 1N Range 17E, and Sections 18-20 and 26-36 Township 1N Range 18E). Alan Romine is the other director in subdistrict 9. Subdistrict 10 includes all Pawnee County within the Nemaha NRD’s jurisdiction and western Richardson County (Townships 1-3N, Range 13E, Townships 1-2N Range 14E, and Townships 1-2N Range 15E). Subdistrict 10 includes Lewiston, Steinauer, Table Rock, Pawnee City, Dubois, Humboldt, Dawson, Verdon, & Salem. Eldon Snoke is the other director in subdistrict 10.
Twenty-one members serve on the Nemaha NRD board and represent 10 subdistricts, two directors per subdistrict, who are elected in alternating election years. One member of the board is elected at-large from throughout the entire District.
Nemaha NRD board meetings are held in Tecumseh on the second Thursday of each month, generally in the evening. Board members are eligible to receive $65 per diem and reimbursement of mileage and other expenses incurred while conducting NRD business.
